How the largest adventure park in Lombardy was born
The request was to create an adventure park in an area that once housed a youth village in the late 1930s. The area is strategically located as it is situated at the starting point of several mountain trails and is served by ample parking. Therefore, it is the ideal location for the development of an attraction that enhances and complements the local outdoor activities.
The Design
The design choice was to create courses for every type, offering a wide range to cater to both children and the most adventurous.
Among the challenges identified during the design phase were:
- The necessary investigations to verify the safety from unexploded wartime ordnance.
- The assessment of any residual risks from the remains of the village (mostly foundations with pavements) and the integration of the Park with these.
- The maintenance of access to the water reservoir with a useful height of 5 meters (aerial crossings at greater heights).
- The creation of a support for stabilizing a plant through a drivable road (with specific permits and ground clearance verification).
The Implementation
The Park consists of 10 paths designed to offer varying levels of challenge and cover the widest range of users possible. The level of difficulty is determined based on the height from the ground of the platforms and the type of connections used to move from one tree to another, which may require greater balance, strength, etc.
Each path consists of an average of 6 stages that develop at heights from the ground of less than one meter, ensuring an adventure experience suitable for young children. It then progresses to more challenging and stimulating courses, culminating in the most adrenaline-pumping ones at 12 meters high.
This includes easy courses with suspended huts for the youngest children, stages with pulleys, climbing walls, more demanding obstacles, and even free-fall jumps for the bravest.
The total area of the project is approximately 20,000 square meters.
All workshops are entirely constructed with certified cables or ropes, certified wood, and logs from the forest's own pruning to minimize environmental impact.
During the design phase, the use of a single wire size was chosen to optimize subsequent construction phases.
In addition, highly effective permanent safety devices have been implemented, so once you enter the course, it is not possible to become unhooked until the end.
